Capsule Geology

This Stikine East is underlain by Late Triassic to Early Jurassic syenite of the Galore Creek Complex (part of the Copper Mountain Plutonic Suite). These are in contact to the north with Upper Triassic Stuhini Group feldspar-porphyritic andesite and to the south with Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic alkaline volcanics comprising pseudoleucite and pyroxene, feldspar flows and breccias which are interlayered with orthoclase feldspar, biotite crystal tuffs and epiclastic units.

The northern contact of the syenite with andesite is formed by a northeast striking fault. Near the northern limit of this mass, the syenite is feldspathized and traces of disseminated chalcopyrite and bornite occur. Veinlets of violet feldspar and aplite are associted with the mineralization. An 11.9 metre sample across the syenite assayed 0.10 per cent copper (Assessment Report 622).

In 1964 and 1965, American Smelting and Mining (ASARCO) conducted mappping, geophysics and geochemical work on the BIK claims (Scud Venture). In the mid 1970s, ASARCO and Silver Standard drilled 2 holes not far from Galore Creek on BIK 221 and 223 claims, about 1.7 kilometres west of the Stikine East showing (Murray Showing) on BIK 53 or 54 claims). Two 2 holes were also drilled on BIK 236 and BIK 238 claims about 3 kilometers northwest of the Stikine East showing. Results did not show any copper mineralization or anything of significance.

Refer to Trophy (Ptarmigan) (104G 053) for related details of work done on the nearby Saddle 6 (104G 313) and Popeye (104G 270) from 1988 to 1990.
